This artwork represents a math-art activity where students are introduced to the artist, Matisse. They create pictures in his style and In the process students find out what warm and cool colors are.

Windows are then cut out of tissue paper, placed over a portion of the picture (see left picture) and estimations begin: How many 1 inch, 1/4 inch, 1/8 inch square units of warm colors and cool colors are in the window.

Estimations are then proven and explained using graph paper (see left picture).

This is an adult example of this activity.
